Nathan P. Hicks

I am a director of marketing and communications who has elevated Fortune 50 brands and launched products and services that have revolutionized aviation. With a degree in mechanical engineering and proficiency in foreign languages, I have acted as a bridge between the technically and creatively minded, from the small venture to the large enterprise. Having lived and worked around the world, I have developed a passion for technology, sustainability and bringing people together across cultures.

Pratt & Whitney

Challenge

Airlines wanted lower costs. The world needed more sustainable aviation. One company had the technology that could revolutionize commercial aviation.

Solution

I played key roles in bringing the GTF engine to market and introducing its first big upgrade, GTF Advantage, a decade later. By saving up to 25% per seat in fuel and carbon emissions with a unique geared architecture, the engine set off a flurry of new aircraft programs and competitive responses. GTF engines entered service in 2016 and have since saved more than a billion gallons (4 billion liters) of fuel and more than 10 million metric tons of carbon emissions.

Pratt & Whitney Canada

Challenge

With low growth in regional, business and general aviation, the world's leading maker of business jet, helicopter and turboprop engines needed better ways to serve its customers.

Solution

Selected as the first U.S. communications expat in nearly a decade, I led communications for aftermarket and business development across five segments, including the launch of facilities and offerings that have allowed the company to grow service sales.

Engine Alliance

Challenge

When the world's premier aircraft debuted, preeminent airlines used it to build their brands on a superior passenger experience. Few knew, however, of the engines that made these planes so quiet, efficient and reliable.

Solution

I elevated a small joint venture with GE Aerospace to the level of its Fortune 50 peers. Recruiting and developing external talent, I put our digital and in-person experience ahead of our competitors and member companies.
